Valentino Rossi, the legendary seven-time MotoGP world champion, is set to make history at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This weekend, he has the opportunity to become the first person to win both a motorcycle and a car race at this iconic venue. In 2008, Rossi made his mark by winning the inaugural Indianapolis GP on a motorcycle. Now, he returns to the circuit with a different challenge, driving the No. 46 Team WRT BMW M4 GT3 EVO in the Intercontinental GT Challenge Indianapolis 8 Hour alongside Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts.
Rossi's potential achievement is a remarkable feat, considering the differences between the motorcycle and car races. The track layout, with its more corners and counter-clockwise direction, presents a unique challenge. Rossi acknowledges the contrast, stating, 'The motorcycle was very different, especially because you go the other way, so this is another track.'
Despite the changes, Rossi's enthusiasm remains high. He has participated in other Intercontinental GT Challenge races, including the 12 Hours of Bathurst and the 24 Hours of Spa, and he's eager to race the M4 GT3 at Suzuka. His current focus, however, is on supporting van der Linde's pursuit of the IGTC championship. Rossi believes in the power of collaboration, saying, 'Here you have more collaboration, more friendship. The relationship that starts with the other driver of the same car is great.'
The No. 46 car will start in fourth place during the Indianapolis 8 Hour, which begins at 12:20 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on RACER+. Rossi's involvement in this race adds an exciting layer to his already impressive career, leaving fans eager to see if he can make history once again.
